Inter-faith prayer service in NYC for Ukrainian people; Archbishop Elpidophoros addresses participants
Halfway around the world, but in a related development, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America on Wednesday joined His Eminence Metropolitan Antony of Hierapolis, and His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the United States, for an Intercessory prayer service for Ukraine and its people.
The prayer service, which was hosted at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Volodymyr in Manhattan, was a reflection of the ecumenical and inter-faith support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora in the United States.
In an address, the Archbishop Elpidophoros, stated, among others: “As we watch the news from the region, we are inspired by both the incredible courage of the Ukrainian people, who are facing terrible adversity with a valor, which no one expected, and by the bravery of the many thousands of Russian people who are risking their freedom — and perhaps even their lives — as they protest this unprovoked and unreasonable attack.”
Several international leaders, office-holders and Church Primates also offered remarks, while the His Eminence Metropolitan Tikhon, of the Orthodox Church in America, was in attendance.
