Jihadi insurgents continue attacks on Christians in NW Syria

More reports of attacks this week by jihadist forces in northern Syria, days after a predominately small Christian Orthodox city was targeted by missiles, resulting in the death of at least 12 people, six of which were children.

On Tuesday, Muslim militants that still control areas west of Aleppo fired on a camp of displaced people, resulting in a still undetermined number of deaths and injuries. Civilians were also targeted in a rocket attack south of Aleppo, with a Syrian military source, quoted by the state-run SANA news agency, citing the death of six people, including two children.

In light of the continuing violence, the Primates of several of the world’s Orthodox Churches addressed letters of condolences to the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East John X.

Condolences for the recent deaths at the hands of extremist rebels were conveyed by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, the Patriarch of Bulgaria, His Beatitude Neophyte, as well as the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos.

Christian humanitarian groups active in the war-ravaged country again warned of more attacks against Christians by extremist insurgents.
