Joint Epiphany Celebration in Port Melbourne, Victoria
In the presence of a large number of Greeks, the joint celebration of Epiphany took place in Melbourne on Sunday morning, 8 January 2023, with the Sanctification of the Waters and the throwing of the Holy Cross at Princes Pier in the suburb of Port Melbourne.
The service was presided over by His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, who was also joined by His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis and by the clergy of the Archdiocesan Districts of Melbourne and Northcote.
The Service of the Sanctification of the Waters was honoured by the presence of, among others, the Deputy Consul of the Consulate General of Greece in Melbourne, Ms. Georgia Botsiou, the Greek State Member of Parliament, Mr. Nikolaos Staikos, who represented the Premier of Victoria, Mr. Daniel Andrews, the Leader of the Opposition in the State Parliament of Victoria, Mr. John Pesutto, the President of the Intercommunities Committee of Victoria, Mr. Tony Tsourdalakis, and the President of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Mr. Vassilis Papastergiadis.
First among dozens of swimmers, young Stelios Kikiris caught and retrieved the Holy Cross from the sea.
