London Greek Film Festival: Five top awards for documentary Elder Joseph the Hesychast

The 2019 documentary on life and works of the Elder Joseph the Hesychast, who was canonized as a saint of the Orthodox Church this year, has picked up five “Odysseus” awards at the annual London Greek Film Festival, including Best Creative Documentary and Best Actor, which in this case is Hollywood actor, musician and author Jonathan Jackson in the title role.

The documentary is a production of the St. Maximos the Greek Foundation.

The festival, which will bestow the awards via an online ceremony next month in London due to coronavirus precautions, also awarded a special mention to the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, on Mount Athos, for the production, the direction and participation in the poignant documentary. A special award was also bestowed on the  brotherhood of monks of Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, for their spiritual and social contributions to society.

Finally, the score “A Prayer for All”, based on a poem composed by St. Joseph the Hesychast, and performed by Jackson, picked up the Best Videoclip Award.
