Melbourne: Agiasmos Blessing for the beginning of the new academic year at Oakleigh Grammar School
In an atmosphere of spiritual joy and rejoicing, an Agiasmos Blessing was held in Melbourne for the beginning of the new school year at Oakleigh Grammar School.
His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Melbourne, visited the school’s facilities, specifically the Sports Centre, who, joined by the Proistamenos of the Church of Saints Anargiri, Father Stavros Kakavas, Archimandrite Kyrillos Zisis and Father George Adamakis, performed the Agiasmos Blessing with special reverence.
The Byzantine Choir of the school participated in the service, and enthusiastically chanted hymns of the Agiasmos Service.
His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis conveyed to the teachers and students of the school the wishes and blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, for the new school year, while in his message to the students, His Grace reminded them how important education is and urged them to work wholeheartedly to achieve their academic goals. He hastened to point out to them that the most important thing in their lives is to find a way to offer themselves to their fellow human beings and to society as a whole, so that our society can look forward to a more auspicious future.
After the Agiasmos, the Headmaster of Oakleigh Grammar School, Mr Mark Robertson, offered hospitality to the Holy Clergy and members of the School Board.
