Memorial Trisagion for the Victims of the Terrorist Attack in Jordan
24 October 2026, His Beatitude our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III, celebrated a Memorial Trisagion for the repose of the souls of the innocent victims of yesterday’s horrific terrorist attack in the Karak (Khmoud) area of Jordan. The attack has plunged the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and Jordanian society as a whole into profound mourning, despite the enduring bonds of peaceful coexistence and brotherhood that unite them. The service was held at the Patriarchal and Central Monastic Church dedicated to the Holy, Glorious and God-crowned Sovereigns Constantine and Helen.
During this sacred supplication, His Beatitude prayed for the repose of those who were unjustly slain in the dwellings of the righteous, for the consolation and strengthening of their families, and for peace and reconciliation in the afflicted region.
In the wake of this tragic event, His Beatitude received telephone calls yesterday from His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, His Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of National Defence, the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, and the President of PASOK. They conveyed their condolences and assured the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the bereaved families of the victims of their unwavering support and solidarity.
The Patriarchate of Jerusalem, sharing in the sorrow of its suffering flock, beseeches the Lord to grant the souls of the slain a dwelling among the living and to bestow upon their loved ones consolation and strength from on high.
The Hegumen of the Brotherhood of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, His Eminence Archbishop Isidoros of Hierapolis, Elder Sacristan, also offered a memorial prayer at the Catholicon of the Church.
