The Metropolitan of Peristeri, His Eminence Klimis, on Sunday, after the holding of the Divine Liturgy, visited several cathedrals and churches in the western Athens Metropolis’ jurisdiction, in order to survey their condition, 48 hours after an earthquake struck the greater Athens area.

The 5.1on the Richter scale tremor was recorded very close to Athens and at a shallow depth, making it particularly felt throughout the Greek capital just after 2 p.m. local time.

Several abandoned buildings in greater Athens sustained damages, while no injuries were reported.

Specifically, the Metropolitan visited the St. George Cathedral in the Kipoupoli district, where two Crosses on bell towers fell, an incident that also occurred at the Cathedral of the True Cross in the Aghios Ierotheos district.
