Metropolitan of Volokolamsk Hilarion continues tour of Christian Orthodox sites in Syria

The Russian Orthodox Church’s Metropolitan of Volokolamsk, His Eminence Hilarion, continued his visit to Syria.

Hilarion, who is also the head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external Church relations, visited the chapel of the Prophet Elijah, which is located within a Russian military base in the country, where he spoke with Russian servicemen about their Christian faith.

The Russian hierarch also visited the town of Maaloula, which lies northeast of Damascus, and worshipped at the church of the holy martyrs Sergius and Bacchus, before also visiting the convent of the St. Thecla, built around the grotto of St. Thecla, where the saint’s relics are preserved.
