Mickey Rourke has just wrapped up an on location shoot in Greece for the new film “Man of God,” and had some incredibly flattering things to say about the country.

Rourke and his Russian co-star, Alexander Petrov, arrived in Greece in early September to shoot scenes for the film.

“Man of God” follows the trials and tribulations of St. Nektarios of Aegina, a famous Greek figure in the Orthodox Church. St. Nektarios was exiled and slandered for most of his life, but never wavered from his beliefs, or from continuing to preach Christian teachings.

Rourke plays a paralyzed man who shares a hospital room with St. Nektarios, and is fully healed by touching the saint after his death.

At the end of his shoot, Rourke had some incredibly complimentary things to say about Greece. He posted an Instagram photo with director Yelena Popovic and captioned it, “Goodbye to Greece. I had a wonderful time filming with Serbian director Yelena Popovic – in the photo with me.

“The people here were terrific. Its such a peaceful and beautiful country. I feel blessed to be here while all hell is breaking out in the United States.”

Besides the fact that the story is based on a Greek figure, there are some Greeks behind the scenes in the movie as well. The producers include Kostas Lambropoulos from View Master Films, as well as Alexandros Potter and Popovic, with their company, Simeon Entertainment.

The Holy Monastery of Vatopedi, St. Maxim the Greek Institute and Eurogroup Ltd have also joined forces to support the production. The film has its final shoot day in Greece on September 21 and is scheduled to premiere in November of 2020.
