More reports of sacrilegious vandalism against Hagia Sophia

A new article has emerged in the Turkish press detailing the destruction of the imperial Hagia Sophia Cathedral, which was reconverted into a mosque by the Islamist Erdogan government in July 2020.
According to the article in the leftist newspaper Birgün, entitled “They speak of inheritance and commit murder”, “…The scandals at Hagia Sophia, which has been converted from a museum into a mosque, continue unabated. While the charge that pieces were removed from a historic door of 1,500-year-old Hagia Sophia remains on the agenda, it’s now asserted that visitors are scrapping the walls and putting the trimmings in bags.”

In the related article, the president of the Turkish Association of Art History, Sherif Yasar, shared a video on his account regarding the latest vandalism at the Hagia Sophia, the greatest of all Basilicas of eastern Christendom.

In Yasar’s video, graffiti of names and shapes have been etched with a sharp object on the walls within the Hagia Sophia, and specifically on a support column.
