The semi-autonomous monastic community of Mount Athos, in northern Greece, as of today is open to pilgrims.

According to the Orthodoxia Νews Αgency, members of the rotating Holy Community, the body which exercises administration of Mount Athos, on Monday decided to reopen the Orthodox monastic community to pilgrims, but with a maximum number allowed to visit on a daily basis.

Among others, a maximum of 10 pilgrims will be allowed per monastery; five for each cenobitic skete.

Additionally, an encyclical accompanying the decision reconfirms a prohibition against visiting more than one monastery per pilgrimage, whereas preventative tests for Covid-19 will continue at entrance points to Mt. Athos.
