The ecclesiastical and cultural treasures of 13 of the 20 monasteries that comprise the semi-autonomous Orthodox monastic community on the Mt. Athos, also known as the Athonite State, will be available to millions of users and researchers from around the world as of next month.

A new digital platform will be unveiled after the New Year in Thessaloniki.

The digital repository was supported by the Greek state and the EU, with the project implemented by Athens-based telecoms and telephony operator OTE and other Greek subcontractors, following a relevant tender.

The participating monasteries of the Athonite polity were: Vatopedi, Hilandar, Dionissiou, Pantokratoros, Xiropotamou, Zografou, Doheariou, Karakalou, Simonos Petras, Aghios Pavlos, Stavronikita, Xenofontos and Gregoriou.
