The all-male monastic community of Mount Athos on Wednesday announced it will extend its ban on visitors or pilgrims until April 20, as part of measures against the coronavirus pandemic.
Mt. Athos comprises several monasteries and hermitages, some of the oldest in the country, occupying the easternmost section of the Chalkidiki peninsula in northern Greece. It first banned visitors on March 19.
