New development-investments minister meets with Mt. Athos’ Holy Community representatives

Representatives of the Athonite brotherhood, representing monasteries on the semi-autonomous and self-governing monastic community of Mt. Athos, met on Wednesday with new Development & Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis in Athens.

In referring to the commencement of a “constant dialogue” with the rotating Holy Community, as the council of representatives from the 20 monasteries is called, the minister said that the new Greek government wants to finds ways – as has been the case in the past – to assist the monastic community in continuing its “illustrious course”.

A representative of the Holy Community, on his part, said the new government has done more to restore smooth Church-state relations than even its pre-election pledges promised.

“In fact, it was a pleasant surprise. This gives us hope, that a better future is dawning for our country…”
