New Greek minister reiterates during meeting with Archbishop Ieronymos: No change in payroll, pension regime for clerics
Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, on Wednesday afternoon received new Greek Education and Religious Affairs Minister Niki Kerameos at the Archdiocese, with the former first referring to a need for continued cooperation between the two sides.
He also welcomed the new minister by referring to his meeting on Tuesday with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, saying he was very pleased with the talks they had.
On her part, Kerameos said her ministry is interested in immediately restarting a Church-state dialogue that will cover all issues, and “always with respect to the distinctive roles of Church and state”.
Ieronymos added that a relevant committee had in the past dealt, successfully, with such issues, and must again be reinstituted.
As previously stated, Kerameos said the current government will maintain the payroll and pension regime for Orthodox clerics in the country.
