New Parliament plenum to convene in Greece this week
A new Parliament plenum will be convened on Wednesday, with newly elected deputies being sworn-in, immediately followed by the tabling of the new Mitsotakis government’s policy statements and a subsequent vote of confidence for the new government.
As far as Church-state relations are concerned, during the recent campaign period, the new Greek premier, whose New Democracy party won the July 7 election, said no changes will be unilaterally taken.
In her first statements as education and religious affairs minister last week, Niki Kerameos noted that Greece’s laws clearly define Church-state relations and protect religious freedom.
She said “… We aim to serve these principles. I call on hierarchs, preachers, clerics and all associated institutions to help us in our work, and to convey their knowledge and valuable experience for an open dialogue with the ministry.”
