NGO points to continued targeting of churches in war-torn Syria

Figures released this week by the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights chronicles what it calls the continued looting and destruction by jihadi forces of Christian places of worship in war-ravaged Syria.

Additionally, the same NGO, which is deemed as more “pro-opposition” and anti-Assad, claimed that government forces and allies have also targeted Churches between 2011 and 2019.

The organization cited more than 120 attacks on Churches in Syria.

The ominous situation in the country coincides with a report by the UK government, which warns that persecution of Christians around the world is taking on dimensions of a genocide.

According to the report, Christians are the most persecuted religious group around the world, with instances of violence and intimidation on the rise.

In the Middle East, for instance, where Christianity began, Christian communities are in danger of being eradicated, despite the fact that many of the faithful are doggedly resisting, often risking their own lives.
