Orthodox Church in Montenegro steadfast in opposition to contentious law threatening Church assets, relics

The chief counsel for the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral, Dragan Sok, this week reiterated that Montenegro authorities continue attempts to manipulate the Orthodox Church in the small Adriatic country, adding that this attempt has negative repercussions in the daily lives of tens of thousands of faithful in the country.

He said “… the pandemic has imposed a break on the protest rallies, but I believe, that when this has passed, we will again commence, unless God enlightens the minds of the authorities, in the meantime, so they revoke their decisions,” he said.

The Orthodox Church in Montenegro has very vocally condemned a contentious law ratified in January, saying it is mostly aimed against it, threatening its pre-WWI cathedrals, estates and relics with confiscation by the state.
