The association representing Orthodox clerics in Greece on Wednesday issued an announcement expressing its concerns over the situation on the eastern Aegean islands of Lesvos and Hios (Chios).
The announcement comes after sharp reactions, including street protests and scattered violence, on the part of local residents against the prospect of more migrant/refugee “hotspots” being built by the state on the two isles.

The Association’s letter states that clerics are praying that the migrant crisis does not cause disunity among the Greek people.
