Orthodox Easter service held in Shanghai after 54 years

The Orthodox faithful of the metropolis of Shanghai celebrated the Resurrection of Christ and the Holy Saturday Divine Liturgy for the first time since 1965, and specifically at the Church of the Mother of God, which is located in the former French concession.
The rector of the ethnic Russian community in Shanghai noted that for many Orthodox Christians, mostly citizens of Russia but also from other nations, Easter is something special.

“Fifty-four years have passed since the exclamation ‘Christ is Risen’, was last heard in Shanghai. This development fills us with particular joy today, ” Fr. Ioann Shelokov said.
