Orthodox Primates officiate at Holy Passion services around the world
According to the tradition, the Ecumenical Patriarch read the first of the 12 Gospel passages and was then followed by co-patrons Metropolitan and priests of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, while the 12th evangelical passage was read by Archdeacon Paisios.
In Alexandria, the Great Thursday service of the Passion was conducted at the Annunciation of the Theotokos cathedral, officiated by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Most Divine Beatitude Theodoros II.
In the Holy Land, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Most Godly Beatitude Theophilos III, officiated at the Holy Passion service.
In Bucharest, the main service by the Romanian Patriarchate was conducted from an outdoor platform erected in the courtyard of the Patriarchal Cathedral in the Romanian capital.
In Albania, the Metropolitan of Amantia, His Eminence Nathaniel, officiated at the Holy Passion services at the cathedral of the Resurrection of the Lord in Tirana.
Finally, in Athens, the Holy Passion services were conducted with veneration and solemnity at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, officiated by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos.
