Participation of HG Bishop Ioan Casian in the episcopal ordination HG Iakovos of Zenoupolis (Ecumenical Patriarchate – Canada)
HG Ioan Casian, the Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Canada, participated on Thursday in the ordination of the third auxiliary – bishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada, HG Iakovos (Antonopoulos) of Zenoupolis.
The religious service took place on July 30, 2020 in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. George in Montreal, Quebec and was presided over by H.Em. Sotirios, the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Canada. Also present among the hierarchs were the two auxiliary – bishops of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada, HG Bartholomew of Keramos and HG Athenagoras of Patara.
Speaking on this occasion, H.Em. Archbishop Sotirios highlighted the rich work carried out in Canada over several years as a priest of the new auxiliary – bishop both in the parishes of Toronto and in those of Montreal. His Eminence also pointed out the responsibility and expectations of the Church from the new hierarch.
H. Em. Archbishop Sotirios thanked HG Bishop Ioan Casian for his participation and underlined the good collaboration between the Romanian Patriarchate and the Ecumenical Patriarchate on an inter-Orthodox level.
At the end, Bishop Ioan Casian congratulated the new hierarch for the gift received from God through his new calling in the Church, offering him an icon, the homage volume Historic Moments in Romanian Orthodoxy in America (trilingual) and the volume Orthodox Theology in twentieth century and early twenty-first century published by Basilica Publishing House.
HG Iakovos of Zenoupolis, in addition to zonal and administrative responsibilities, is also the coordinator of the youth movement within the Greek Archdiocese of Canada.
