Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia congratulated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on his 70th birthday and awarded him the church order of Glory and Honor (I degree).
According to the patriarchal press service, the minister was decorated on Wednesday at his meeting with the patriarch at the synodal residence of St. Daniel Monastery in Moscow.
The minister was awarded «for his outstanding contribution to the establishment of peace and justice in international relations and development of cooperation between Church and state in Russia, as well as in connection with his 70th birthday».
Addressing the jubilee, the Patriarch noted that Lavrov changed the attitude of many people to Russia.
«Your always principled approach to solving the tasks that You face, and at the same time the highest level of intelligence and, I would say, charm in contacts with people, made many people who even do not fully share Russian foreign policy perceive it with understanding and respect,» the primate said, wishing that the Lord would further strengthen Lavrov on his way of working for the Fatherland in the rank of Foreign Minister.
