Patriarch Kirill asks the State Duma speaker to broadly discuss amendments on the removal of children from the family
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia asks the State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin to organize a broad public discussion of legislative amendments regulating the removal of children from the family when their life and health are threatened.
“The problem of unjustified removal of children from their parents is very serious. The Russian Orthodox Church has repeatedly drawn attention to the need to ensure effective protection of citizens at the legislative level from unjustified and/or illegal interference in family life (especially under the pretext of protecting children’s rights),” the patriarch’s letter to Volodin published on Thursday reads.
Patriarch Kirill recalled that several tens of thousands of people signed the demand not to allow the adoption of this law, and the Commission on Demography of Russia’s Public Chamber concluded that the law should be significantly improved.
