The Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Most Beatitude Theodoros II, arrived in the southern Africa country of Malawi this week, accompanied by the Metropolitan of Axum, His Eminence Daniel, and by the Bishop of Malawi, His Grace Fotios.
A doxology service was held at the Orthodox chapel of the Annunciation of the Theotokos, in the country’s capital, Lilongwe, after the very warm welcome extended to the Patriarch and the accompanying hierarchs.
The Patriarch expressed his satisfaction over the missionary work conducted by the diocese in the country.
The Primate of the Church of Alexandria then toured the property and laid a foundation stone for a new Orthodox Cathedral in the Malawi capital, one dedicated to St. George. The property was donated by the Malawi government.
