The Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, on Wednesday was personally briefed in Athens about the international film production “Man of God”, by the project’s director screenwriter, Jelena Popovic. The film, which is currently being shot in Greece with an international case, deals with the life of 20th century St. Nektarios of Aegina. The Primate of the Orthodox Church in Africa received Popovic at the Alexandria Patriarchate’s glebe in the Greek capital.

Afterwards, His Divine Beatitude told the Orthodoxia News Agency that the film could not have come at a more auspicious time, given that November 2020 will mark the centennial of the repose of St. Nektarios.

The Church, according to Theodoros, is also humbly planning a series of events to commemorate the memory of St. Nektarios, whose works and life are indelibly linked with the Eastern Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria.

His Divine Beatitude keenly listened to details about the production in Greece, asking about the cast members. The Patriarch also told the US-based screenwriter that he spends hours at the Patriarchate’s chapel in Athens when he visits the Greek capital, where an icon of the saint is displayed.

A promotional presentation on IMDb reads: “Exiled unjustly, convicted without trial, slandered without cause. ‘Man of God\ depicts the trials and tribulations of St. Nektarios of Aegina, as he bears the unjust hatred of his enemies while preaching the Word of God.”

Among the cast members is Mickey Rourke, who plays the paralyzed man, while Russian actor Alexander Petrov is cast in the role of “Kostas”.

Aris Servetalis will portray St. Nektarios, while several other noted Greek actors and actresses are participating, including Tonia Sotiropoulou, Alexandros Mylonas, Gerassimos Skiadaresis, Giannis Stankoglou, Nikitas Tsakiroglou and Marthilia Svarna.

Finally, award-winning Hollywood actor Jonathan Jackson will portray a significant character in the life of St. Nektarios.
