Patriarch of Alexandria Theodoros II concludes historic visit to United States

A historic and apostolic visit to the United States by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Beatitude Theodoros II, concluded this week.

The visit was the first by an enthroned Patriarch of Alexandria to America, with one of the highlights being His Beatitude’s meeting at the White House with US President Joe Biden, as reported by the Orthodoxia news agency during our newscast on Wednesday.

His Beatitude was accompanied to the White House by the resident Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros.

His Beatitude had the opportunity to brief Biden administration officials over the Patriarchate’s mission in Africa, as well as Moscow Patriarchate’s un-canonical intrusion into the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Alexandria Patriarchate.

On Saturday evening, the Order of Saint Andrew, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, honored His Beatitude Theodoros with the Athenagoras Human Rights Award.

This is the highest award of the Order of the Apostle Andrew of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which was established in 1986.

Patriarch Theodoros’ missionary work through the Alexandria Patriarchate has been widely regarded as visionary, and in support of the Patriarch’s ministries, Archon National Commander Dr. Anthony Limberakis presented His Beatitude with a donation of 100,000 dollars, on behalf of the Order. Additionally, well-known businessman John Catsimatidis, on behalf of the John and Margo Catsimatidis Foundation, likewise presented a matching donation.

As Dr. Limberakis explained, Patriarch Theodoros has also consistently stood by His All-Holiness, Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, in fortifying Orthodox unity.

In his acceptance address, among others, the Patriarch of Alexandria referred to the Moscow Patriarchate’s intrusion into Africa, stressing that “…they come to expel me from where? From our home? They come like wolves to snatch who? Destitute people.”
