Patriarch of All Romania will not participate in Amman meeting called by Patriarch of Jerusalem; delegation of bishops to attend
Sessions of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Romania were concluded this week, under the chairmanship of the Patriarch of All Romania, His Beatitude Daniel.
In a subsequent press release, the Holy Synod announced that it will send a delegation of Romanian Orthodox bishops to Amman, Jordan, in order to participate in a Pan-Orthodox meeting proposed by the Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Most Godly Beatitude Theophilos III.
The announcement, however, clarifies that “…this meeting does not have the character of a synaxis of Primates, which will resolve the issue of a restoration of Eucharistic communion between certain (Orthodox) Churches. This is why His Beatitude, Patriarch Daniel, will not participate, but rather a delegation of bishops.”
Regarding the contentious issue of the granting of the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Romania emphasized that “… this can only be achieved through an understanding between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Patriarchate Moscow, and with the acquiescence of the other Churches.”
