Patriarch of Antioch receives top Abkhaz leader

The Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, His Beatitude John X, on Wednesday received Kremlin-backed Abkhaz leader Aslan Bzhania, at the Patriarchal residence in Damascus.
According to the Antioch Patriarchate, the Abkhaz delegation also visited the Mariamite Cathedral in Damascus. A statement issued by the Antioch Patriarchate mentioned Bzhania as the “…president of the Republic of Abkhazia.”

Abkhazia is a breakaway region from the Republic of Georgia, on the southeastern coast of the Black Sea.
