Patriarch of Jerusalem receives visiting Greek foreign minister in Holy City

The Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Most Godly Beatitude Theophilos III, on Tuesday received the visiting Greek minister of foreign affairs, Nikos Dendias, at the Patriarchate in the Holy City.
Dendias arrived in the region for talks with several of his counterparts, and amid the violence that has erupted this month.

Afterwards, Dendias posted a statement on his official Twitter account, noting that “…I met with Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III. I underlined the protection of Holy Pilgrimages and the preservation of their status.”

Dendias is the first European Union foreign minister to arrive in Israel after the outbreak of the latest crisis, as he was received on the same day by Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi.

While in Israel, Dendias will participate in an extraordinary teleconference of EU foreign ministers convened by UN High Representative Josep Borrell to review developments in the region.

He travels to Cairo on Thursday for a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart.
