Patriarch of Serbia Porfirije to celebrate Christmas in Kosovo & Metohija with Orthodox faithful, clergy

The Serbian Orthodox Church on Thursday announced today that His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije will visit the historic Peć Patriarchate and the Diocese of Raska-Prizren, both located in the Kosovo and Metohija province, “…in accordance with his program and discretion”.

The announcement added that His Holiness will travel to the Stavropegic Lavra in the Patriarchate of Peć, in order to visit with clergy and faithful of the Diocese. The statement added that the pastoral visits are not related to any political context or to any personality from political life.

The Patriarch of Serbia will officiate at the Synodal liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Sava in Vračar at midnight on Christmas Day on Saturday, the feast of the Nativity of Jesus Christ, as based on the Julian calendar.

Kosovo Albanian authorities had previously prevented the Primate of the Serbian Church from entering the troubled province, which generated intense reactions around the world. The Kosovo Albanians relented after interventions by the EU and Washington.
