Patriarchs of Romania and Bulgaria to attend the Ecumenical Patriarch’s Name Day celebrations on Imbros
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will celebrate his name day, observed on 11 June, in his birthplace of Imbros, marking a historic occasion for the island and its faithful.
According to His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, this year’s celebrations will be attended by the Primates of the Orthodox Churches of Romania and Bulgaria. His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania and His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria will arrive on Imbros on Tuesday, 9 June, accompanying the Ecumenical Patriarch.
The hierarchs are scheduled to arrive at the island’s port at 5:30 p.m., after which they will be formally welcomed in the central square of the village of Agioi Theodoroi. An official Doxology marking the arrival of the Primates will be celebrated the following day, Wednesday, 10 June, at the Church of Saint George in Agioi Theodoroi.
Metropolitan Kyrillos noted that this will be the first time that the Ecumenical Patriarch celebrates his patronal feast in the village of his birth, describing it as a moment of great significance and inviting all Imbrians to participate in the festivities.
This year’s celebrations carry added importance, as His All-Holiness is also commemorating two major milestones: the 65th anniversary of his priestly ministry and the 35th anniversary of his fruitful Patriarchal ministry on the Ecumenical Throne.
