Rector of Russian Church Representation takes part in service for those who fell in battles for liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman yoke
On March 2, 2021, on the eve of the Bulgaria’s Day of the Liberation from Ottoman Yoke, Bishop Polycarp of Belogradchik, vicar of the Metropolis of Sofia, led the service for the dead at the monument tor military doctors who fell in battles for the liberation of Bulgaria during the 1877-1878 Russian-Turkish war. Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev), rector of the Sofia Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church; the Rev. Economos Angel Angelov, Archpriest Yevgeny Pavelchuk, secretary of the Representation; Archpriest Kostadin Trenev; Hierodeacon Polycarp (Terziev); and Deacon Alexander Morozov concelebrated.
The Vice-president of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms. Ileana Yotova addressed those present pointing to the sacrificial feat of the doctors who took part in the liberation war and gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Bulgaria.
After the service, wreaths were laid at the monument from the Russian Federation’s Ambassador Ms. E. Mitrofanova, the head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Bulgaria Ms. O. Shirokova, representatives of the Russian diplomatic corps and the Bulgarian Red Cross, the Representation’s website reports.
