Resurrection Saturday evening service throughout Greece on Tues. – one month after worshipers barred from Church-going due to coronavirus
The Holy and Great Easter Resurrection service will be held later this evening at around midnight, in cathedrals around Greece, with the faithful chanting the iconic hymn “Christos Anesti”, which means “Christ is Risen” in Greek.

The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece last month announced that the Resurrection service will be celebrated during the commemoration of the Apodosis of Pascha, Great and Holy Easter, over the evening of May 26 to May 27, given that worshipers could not attend Holy Week services amid the coronavirus “lockdown” that was in place throughout April.

The Holy Vespers services and the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral, with the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, officiating.

Individual Metropolises around the country have been issued directives by the Holy Synod, requesting that the faithful carry Resurrection service candles, with a relevant encyclical referring to “ an opportunity on the part of the faithful to relive their Easter joy, which they were deprived of due to the coronavirus pandemic.”
