Romanian Patriarchate urges people to donate blood and COVID-19 convalescent plasma

With the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, in 2012 the Archdiocese of Bucharest started a blood donation campaign called “A drop of blood for the life of his neighbour”.

Starting with 2014, with the approval of the Holy Synod, this campaign was extended nationwide throughout the Romanian Patriarchate under the slogan “Donate blood, save a life!”

Thus, the largest blood donation campaign in Romania was carried out in cooperation with various public institutions (regional and county transfusion centres, hospitals, clinics, departments of social assistance and child protection, Gendarmerie, Police and Army), as well as non-governmental organizations (Association of Romanian Christian-Orthodox Students, Romanian Orthodox Christian Youth League and other associations).

During the 6 years of the “Donate blood, save a life!” campaign 40,800 donors participated and the amount of blood collected was over 18,000 litres.

In the current medical and epidemiological context, so difficult, through which the Romanian society passes, the Romanian Patriarchate addresses to all those who understand the value of saving a human life its urge to participate in the noble action of blood donation.

In this difficult medical and epidemiological context, the Romanian Patriarchate urges all those who understand the value of saving a human life to participate in the noble action of blood donation.

It also launches a call to donate convalescent plasma, according to the eligibility criteria, to save those in a critical situation due to the infection with the new coronavirus.

Blood and convalescent plasma donation is now the brightest and most necessary acts of sacrificial love and human solidarity!
