The opening ceremony for the main church of the Russian Armed Forces has been scheduled for June 22 of this year, a source told Interfax on Friday.

“The opening of the church is planned for June 22, which is marked in Russia as the Day of Memory and Grief,” the source said.

Initially, the church, built in Kubinka, near Moscow, was due to open on May 6, just before Victory Day, but as Interfax reported in late April, the risk of coronavirus forced the event to be postponed until a later date.

The ceremony will start early in the morning with a prayer, then the focus will shift to the Road of Remembrance museum complex, which, like the church, was created in time for the 75th anniversary of the Soviet people’s Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the source said.

The church stands on the grounds of Patriot Park.
