Russian Church hopes authorities will not impede Christianization Day procession in Ukraine

The Moscow Patriarchate has expressed its hope that this year’s traditional religious procession organized by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in honor of the Christianization of Kievan Rus will not be impeded by authorities, as was the case last year.

“We all remember with what difficulties the religious procession in Ukraine was held last year, what pressure was put on believers (…) We hope that, unlike the previous Ukrainian presidential administration, the new one will follow the standards in the field of religious freedom and will not attempt to restrict the right to hold religious processions,” Vakhtang Kipshidze, deputy head of the Synodal Department for Church, Society and Media Relations, told a press conference in Moscow.
