Russians trust the army and the church the most, of all state and public institutions, according to the results of a survey done by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM).

According to the survey, the army is supported and approved of by 86% of the respondents, which is almost 20% more than in December 2014, when this indicator was at a level of 69.3%.

The Russian Orthodox Church received the support of 68.8% of the respondents (a 4% increase from 2014).

The third most trusted public and state institution is the law enforcement agencies, which, according to the poll, are supported by 57% of the respondents (against 48.8% in 2014).

The approval rating of both chambers of the Russian parliament decreased over the past four years, from 48.5% to 35.5% for the State Duma and from 45.6% to 39.2% for the Federation Council, the VCIOM poll shows. Almost half of the respondents (47%) do not approve of the work of the State Duma and 31.2% do not approve of the worm of the Federation Council.

The number of respondents who do not approve of the activities of the opposition, judicial system, political parties and trade unions and the mass media has increased, according to the poll. The opposition’s disapproval rating went up almost 10% over the past four years, from 32.5% in December 2014 to 41.3% in December 2018. The disapproval rating number has increased from 33.9% to 37.6% for the judicial system, from 27.1% to 37.4% for political parties, from 29% to 35% for trade unions, and from 21.2% to 34.1% for the mass media, according to the survey.

The nationwide poll, which surveys 1,600 respondents aged older than 18, was conducted on December 17.
