Saints of Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi commemorated on Wed.

The saints of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, on the semi-autonomous monastic community of Mt. Athos, are commemorated today by the Orthodox Church.

St. Maximus the Greek, also known as Maximos the Greek or Maximos the Hagiorite, for instance, was a noted 16th Vatopedi Monastery monk, writer, scholar, and translator — particularly active in Tsarist Russia and known as an illuminator of the Russian people.
