A state funeral will be held this week in Athens for iconic WWII resistance figure Manolis Glezos, who died on Monday at the age of 98. Only close relatives will attend, given that restrictions on the non-essential movement are in place in the country.
Glezos will be interred at the Athens First Cemetery in a tomb donated by the Athens municipality.
A teenage Glezos, along with Apostos Santas, climbed up the Acropolis in central Athens in May 1941 and took down the swastika, flown hoisted atop the ancient monument by German occupation troops.
