Sunday of Orthodoxy commemorated at the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople; plea for end to war; Greek PM in attendance

The Sunday of Orthodoxy, which also marks the first Sunday of Great & Holy Lent, was commemorated with splendorous and centuries-old Byzantine rite at the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, the Mother Church, with the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, officiating.

Among the faithful in attendance, many traveling from every corner of the world, was the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The con-celebratory Divine Liturgy was co-officiated by several Metropolitans of the Ecumenical Throne and Archdioceses under the jurisdiction of the Mother Church, along with bishops, priests and deacons.
Additionally, the ordination of a monk, Barnabas of the Patriarchal & Stavropegic Monastery of St John the Baptist in Essex (UK), was conducted during the Divine Liturgy.

The celebratory sermon was preached by the Metropolitan of Thyateira & Great Britain, His Eminence Nikitas.

Congregants in attendance included Mount Athos monks, Archons of the Mother Church, headed by philanthropist Theodoros Angelopoulos, the Archon Megas Logothetis (grand deputy), Greek, Ukrainian and other diplomats accredited to Turkey, the Greek government’s spokesman and other officials, as well as faithful from across the world.
