SYRIAN CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES RECEIVE WHEELCHAIRS FROM RUSSIAN CHURCH

The Russian Orthodox Church made another donation to Syrian children yesterday with the help of a generous benefactor.

Igumen Arseny (Sokolov), the representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarchal Throne of Antioch, visited the Amal school for disabled children with Damascus yesterday, where he met with the school’s director, Mosab al-Kanj, as well as teachers and students and offered a donation of three new wheelchairs to the school, reports the Department for External Church Relations.

The director warmly thanked Fr. Arseny and asked that humanitarian assistance to the school might continue.

The Amal school currently educates 165 disabled children, most of whom are unable to move independently, and it is in dire need of wheelchairs of various sizes, diapers, and much more. The school is one of two in Syria for disabled children, the other in Aleppo.

The wheelchairs were purchased with the donation of the Russian-Canadian philanthropist Alexei Fiset and delivered to the Russian Church’s representation in Damascus by the head of the humanitarian and charitable programs of the Combat Brotherhood Russian veteran organization, which has made many generous donations to the struggling people of Syria.

In October 2017, the Brotherhood delivered toys and school supplies to 2,500 Syrian Sunday School students. The following March, the organization offered a large donation to St. Thekla’s Monastery in Maaloula, which suffered under the control of terrorists for more than a year in 2014-2015.
