The Archbishop of Cyprus on the operation of NKUA branches in Cyprus
With feelings of joy, His Beatitude Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus welcomes the operation of branches of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) in Cyprus.
As His Beatitude stated:
“I express my particular joy because, after many difficulties and, in my opinion, unjustifiable delays, the relevant license was granted and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is now coming with its branches to Cyprus.
My joy does not stem only from the fact that I myself am a graduate of NKUA, but mainly because in this way we express our gratitude to this University, which for many decades accepted Cypriot high school graduates into its various faculties without entrance examinations. Especially during the colonial period, this protected our national spirit, preventing the plans of the English to push students toward English universities, which would have weakened our national self-consciousness.
We wish every success to NKUA, which is also our own University.”
