Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Information, the National Library of Serbia, and the ‘Platoneum’ Publishing House, the prototypical edition of the Belgrade Parimejnik – the Serbian medieval codex from the first quarter of the 13th century – was presented in the crypt of the Saint Sava Temple in Vracar on October 17, 2019.

His Grace Bishop of Backa Irinej, Minister of Culture and Information Vladan Vukosavljevic, Director of the National Library of Serbia Laslo Blašković, and Vladan Trijićas as editor of the book presented their thorough reviews.

Pointing out that it is one of the oldest but most beautiful Parimeiniks, Bishop Irinej expressed his joy over the publication of a prototypical edition of that manuscript as part of the celebration of eight centuries of autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Minister of Culture and Information Mr. Vladan Vukosavljevic reminded that the Belgrade Parimeinik was the oldest book in the National Library of Serbia and emphasized that it was a part of a triad – the three most monumental preserved codices of early Serbian spirituality and literacy, in addition to Vukan’s Gospel-Book and Miroslav’s Gospel-Book.

The Belgrade Parimeinik was printed in thousand copies.

The ceremony in the crypt of the Saint Sava Church in Belgrade was attended by Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, Vicar Bishop of the Serbian Patriarch, clergy, a representative of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities, representatives of the public life of Belgrade.

Parimeinik  or Prophetologion is a liturgical book containing most important Old Testament portions, so-called parimeias that are read at great vespers on the eve of very important Church feasts marking biblical events or great saints of the Church.
