Condemnation of institution of sharia in Brunei

International fallout and condemnations continued over last week’s decision by the Sultan of Brunei to fully implement sharia law in the tiny oil-rich state located on the large Pacific island of Borneo.
Among other sentences, converting from Islam or leaving the specific religion is punished by death in the absolute monarchy, or, in a best-case scenario, violently separation from one’s spouse and children.

The small Christian community in the statelet faces continued institutional persecution.
