The Ecumenical Patriarch presided over the inauguration of the renovated Zografeion Lyceum
On Wednesday evening, 15 October 2025, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided in Constantinople over the inauguration of the first phase of the renovation of the historic Zografeion Lyceum, in the presence of a large gathering of members of the Greek community and distinguished guests.
With respect for its history and architectural identity, the Zografeion Gymnasium–Lyceum of Constantinople underwent renovation works aimed at seismic strengthening of the historic building, based on comprehensive studies carried out by the University of Constantinople and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
The renovation works began immediately after the end of the school year, with the generous support of the Hellenic Bank Association and shipowner Athanasios Martinos, Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, confirming the enduring significance of the Zografeion in the collective memory of the Hellenism of the City of Constantinople.
The first phase of the renovation has now been completed and was inaugurated by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, through whose tireless care the project was realised. The Zografeion, in a gesture of gratitude and honour, has named one of its halls after His All-Holiness, who himself was a student of the historic school.
