Τhe feast of Joseph of Arimathaea and the Myrrh-bearing women in Jerusalem
On the Sunday of the Myrrh-bearing Women, the 13th/26th of April 2026, the Patriarchate celebrated the feast of Joseph of Arimathaea and the Myrrh-bearing women at the Holy Cathedral of Saint James the Brother of the Lord in Jerusalem (and not at the Chapel of the Myrrh-bearers, due to ongoing works), with a Great Hierarchical Vespers on the eve and with the Divine Liturgy.
The services were led by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of Lydda, concelebrating with Archimandrite Philoumenos and the parish priest Fr Farah. At Vespers, the chanting was offered by the chief cantor of the Church of the Resurrection, Deacon Eustathios, while at the Divine Liturgy it was rendered in Greek by Professor Mr Ioannis Karanikolas and in Arabic by the choir of the Holy Church, with the participation in devout prayer of the members of the parish of Saint James, monks and nuns, and local pilgrims.
This feast was especially honoured by the philanthropic organisation “Myrrh-bearing Women” of the Holy Cathedral of Saint James the Brother of the Lord, also through a gathering held at the “Ouzoun” Hall in the Old City of Jerusalem.
