The Name Day celebrations of Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece
On Monday morning, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece attended prayerfully at the Sacred Hesychasterion of the Transfiguration of the Saviour and Saint Porphyrios in Milesi on the feast of Saint Ieronymos, the day on which the Archbishop celebrates his name day.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace Bishop Ioannis of Skiathos, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, concelebrating with His Grace Bishop Barnabas of Christoupolis, Protosyncellus of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, and His Grace Bishop Nikodimos of Epidaurus, General Director of E.K.Y.O.
Present were numerous hierarchs of the Church of Greece and from abroad, directors of the services of the Holy Synod and the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, representatives of local authorities, clergy, and lay faithful.
The homily was delivered by Bishop Ioannis of Skiathos, who spoke about Saint Ieronymos and also about the person of the Archbishop. He emphasised that Saint Ieronymos, through both his life and writings, reveals how a person may deepen his thirst and hunger for God, filling his existence with divine grace and progressing toward true blessedness. Drawing a parallel between the Saint and the celebrating Primate of the Church of Greece, he noted that the Archbishop, through his life, discernment, and pastoral ministry, likewise bears living witness to this spiritual journey, inspiring the faithful to seek Christ and cultivate love and humility.
He further stressed that in the person of the Archbishop are united classical learning, theological formation, spiritual experience, and love for the Church and for humanity. He also praised His Beatitude’s contribution to the unity of the Church, the discernment with which he exercises his pastoral ministry, and his concern for every suffering and persecuted person.
Following the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Ieronymos expressed his gratitude to God, to Saint Ieronymos, and to Saint Porphyrios of Kafsokalyvia, and thanked all those who participated in the service. He prayed that the grace of God and the blessings of Saint Porphyrios, in whose church they had the blessing to worship, would protect and strengthen all, granting health, peace, and spiritual progress to the people, the nation, and the world.
He also wished everyone strength, success, and every blessing, and afterwards received the good wishes of those present on the occasion of his name day.
