The President of the Hellenic Republic attends the Celebration of the Patron Saint of Patras, Saint Andrew the First-Called
The President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tassoulas, attended the celebration of the memory of the Patron and Protector of Patras, the Holy Apostle Andrew the First-Called.
In the magnificent church dedicated to the Saint, the Festal Divine Liturgy was celebrated, presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Ierotheos of Nafpaktos and Agios Vlasios. This was followed by the Doxology and the grand Procession of the Precious Relic of the Apostle Andrew’s Holy Head and his Sacred Icon, led by the local hierarch, His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Patras.
After the conclusion of the procession, President Mr. Tassoulas made the following statement:
“Today is a glorious day for the Apostolic and historic city of Patras. Here, at the pan-Orthodox pilgrimage site of Saint Andrew, we honoured and celebrated the Patron Saint of the city of Patras, the Patron of the Achaean capital.
Saint Andrew has watched over and blessed Patras for centuries, and his example—stemming from his martyr’s death during the reign of Emperor Nero—continues to teach and guide us.
His message of justice, love, and solidarity is more precious today than ever. We follow it, we honour it, and we strive to be worthy of it. For these words, these meanings, strengthen our social cohesion, reinforce our unity as a people, and fill us with optimism and faith in our future.
Today we honoured a Saint, his teaching, and—hopefully—we prove worthy of his example. I am certain that by following this teaching, we will make our society and our homeland even stronger. Many years from Patras to all.”
