Tragedy of war drags on in Ukraine for 50th day

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday praised what he called his people’s bravery and resolve on the 50th day of war. He also called Russia’s invasion “absurd” and “suicidal” in his latest national address.
Meanwhile, the Russian navy’s flagship cruiser Moskva has sunk in the Black Sea off southern Ukraine, according to Russia’s defense ministry.

Nevertheless, Kiev claimed that the vessel was hit by two Ukrainian-made anti-ship missiles.

On its part, the Kremlin continued to maintain that a fire onboard and stormy sea conditions caused the warship to sink as it was being towed to a port.

In other related news, nearly 6,700 alleged war crimes allegedly committed by Russian troops in Ukraine are under investigation, the federal Ukrainian prosecutor’s office said.

Ukraine’s foreign ministry has also appealed to the United Nations to facilitate the return of children who have been “illegally deported” to Russia, as it said. In a statement, the ministry said Russia had “…engaged in state-organized kidnapping of children and destruction of the future of the Ukrainian nation”.
